    Story

The health status in Sierra Leone, is still among the worst in the world. Life expectancy remains low at just 47 years and maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the world, with more than 8 deaths a day. The country is described as the most difficult place on earth for pregnant and postnatal women and this is very evident in the local area where there is no permanent clinic for the healthcare workers to provide care and education.

Marion is the ONLY midwife, employed to work with the women and families in Lungi, Sierra Leone. Marion currently cares for over 4000 women and families a year, but with no permanent clinic to provide care, she is facing a challenge. Marion cares for women during pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal period, ensuring that these women have access to safe care and reducing the rate of maternal deaths in this deprived area of the world. She is currently delivering care and education to women and families under a temporary shelter. Here is where you come in - by donating to this worthy cause, you will be helping Marion to deliver care to the families of Sierra Leone in a safe and purpose built clinic. Research has shown that women who receive safe care are more likely to survive childbirth, they are more likely to have healthy pregnancies and their children are more likely to survive. The money raised will provide a permanent clinic for the people in the Lungi area of Sierra Leone. This clinic would avoid women in labour having to walk or be carried to clinics further away, reducing the pain and distress for these women and their families. By donating to this worthy cause, you will be helping Marion to help these women and their families survive in the difficult conditions that they live in. Thank you.
