As many of you are aware, our much-loved friend, Neil Tsui, has suffered a life-changing illness and needs your support.

It started as nothing more than a high fever and a rash. But within hours of feeling unwell, Neil was rushed into the ICU. Through a stroke of pure misfortune, it became evident that Neil had contracted necrotising fasciitis, a rare, but deadly, flesh-eating bacterial infection.

The ferocity of the infection rapidly led to septic shock, causing the shutdown of Neil’s vital organs, including his heart, lungs, and kidneys. Multiple battles by both Neil and his extensive medical team ensued during the following days to save his life.

Through quick action, a series of life-saving procedures, and Neil’s inherent strength and will to live, the incredible team of medical professionals at Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore were able to bring Neil back from the brink. In the doctors’ words, ‘’Neil cheated death’’.

However, there is always a risk associated with medical treatments used to treat severe septic shock. In order to keep blood pumping to Neil’s heart and other vital organs, the circulation of blood to his lower legs and feet was compromised.

As a result, Neil will require below-knee amputations to both of his legs.

Whilst still in the early stages and first few weeks, Neil and Sarah have already amassed medical bills of over USD 400,000 with many many more to come! Whilst insurance will help to cover some of the costs, not all will be claimable, and an overall cap will soon be reached.

We are all well aware that the road ahead for Neil and Sarah is long, and there will be many unknowns. As Neil recovers and is well enough to leave the hospital, he and Sarah will continue to face expenses related to multiple different types of prosthetics, ongoing rehabilitation, home adaptations and other unforeseen costs. This list will only grow as Neil and Sarah enter a new world where they discover what Neil needs in order to live an active and fulfilling life.

Having celebrated the joyous occasion of their wedding only 1.5 months before the onset of this life-altering event, nobody could have believed or anticipated that something like this could happen. But the abundance of love and emotional support bestown on Neil and Sarah from so many around the world continues to give them the strength, courage, and determination to move forward.

Although not an easy decision, Neil has agreed to setting up a crowd funding page so people may support him on this journey.

Alongside their families and friends, Neil and Sarah have been blown away and totally humbled by the outpouring of love they’ve received, and its the power of positivity and love that will help them embrace this new chapter.
