Story
SAVE OUR APPLE DAY !
The big draw at our Annual Apple Days has been a big apple press, loaned and operated by our local National Trust. But now they can no longer bring their press along to our Orchard.
What would an Apple Day be,without and Apple Press?
The answer? To have a press of our own, for the whole community to use. On Apple Day we make sure there are plenty of apples, so that everyone can have a go at pressing, and then they can take some of the delicious juice home. If people have their own apples, they can bring them along too.
A local joinery has very kindly offered to build us a press for just the cost of the materials. We will need to buy a hydraulic car jack to operate it, and a magnificent mincing machine to chop up the apples before they go into the press.
We started the Apple Days five years ago and they have become a very popular event in Arundel's calendar. The day is free to all, with music and dancing, a Community Chef cooking up delicious recipes to try, Orchard Tours; local organisations have stalls with games, crafts and information , and there's Forest School Corner.
It would be very hard to continue this lovely event without the focus of an apple press at its centre. How brilliant would it be to have our own Arundel press, built by Roundstone Joinery, an Arundel firm?

6 years agoWe did it! Combined with direct donations we raised all the money and the apple press is built, delivered, and had it's first trial pressing. It worked beautifully and is ready to be seen in operation at our Apple Day on Sunday 14th October at Herington's Field, Arundel. 11 am to 3 pm. Very many thanks to all the generous people who have given Arundel it's very own Apple Press.
