Story

Erewash Mental Health Association Ltd is a Company Limited by Guarantee, a Registered Charity and a Voluntary organisation that has been running in Erewash for over 20 years. The aim of the Association is to provide a supportive environment for our members and carers, where choice is paramount. We endeavour to make our day centres welcoming, safe and they also provide a low cost meal, with a teapot that never runs dry.

Our members have long and enduring Mental Health problems, and our success is that the majority feel that they can walk through our front door with confidence, and a feeling of self-worth. We offer a quality of life, mutual respect, and try to cater for the individuals needs and we are providing a valuable service.

We arrange many courses and activities for our members, for example, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Keep-fit, Craft, Computers and CV support for those wishing to get back into work, regular outings, Cookery, Pool, Games, Relaxation, Confidence Building and Art, which are chosen by the members.

The Association is no longer being funded due to cuts within mental health and we are in dire risk of closing down, which means the members who use the centre will be without a place to go for support, social activities and this is something that is causing them uncertainty.

History

Erewash Mental Health Association Ltd first opened its doors in June 1987, and was in response to a development worker from Derbyshire County Council Social Services, highlighting a need for a day centre in Erewash Borough, for people with Mental Health problems.

Many people in Ilkeston use our service and it has been of benefit to them, But now all funding is cut we need to resort to asking the public just to donate a pound, a penny anything helps.

The centre prides itself in being non judgmental and welcomes those from all walks of life, helping get people into the community again and to find friendship, support and hopefully a new hobby!

Please Please Please, This is out last resort and we want to help give certainty to our members who attend daily, and it's their get up and go, they leave the house to come to somewhere safe where they won't be judged.

thanks.
