For three weeks this summer, I have taken the once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Nepal to help and work alongside local communities. I will be assisting in the construction of beautiful new green spaces for children to learn more about their environment, and why it is so important to protect it. I will also be helping to teach locals more about the ways in which they can help build a more sustainable relationship with their environment, for future generations.

Nepal is home to some of the most endangered species in the world. The Bengal Tiger, which in 2008 became a red listed animal according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, has seen it's population fall dramatically due to poaching for fur and medicinal properties.

Whilst there is no simple fix to the conservation of animals such as these, I hope to be able to raise awareness and provide new ideas to local communities on how to help avoid the need for poaching to provide income in a country, which in 2010 had over 25% of people living below the national poverty line.

Although much of the money for this trip has come from either personal funds, or the very generous donations of close family members, the trip and the flight costs are still very high. The goal of £250 would help me subsidise some of the remaining costs I have left to pay to the international volunteering company 'Frontier', I am working with whilst in Nepal.
