Story

My name is Intesar (3rd year medical student at University of Birmingham) and I want to embark on a mission to help those who are less fortunate not by just raising money but raising it and see it be put to good use. I want to share with you my experiences when I am there of how this will help out those who are less fortunate.

For Bangladesh I will be raising money for the Charity called Maa. They are a well established charity started by a group of students at Kings College London. I want to help raise money for that as well. Half of whatever is made will go towards Maa while the other half will go towards Nepal.

If you cannot help by giving money in the conventional sense there are other ways to help.

If you are a non-medical professional and are at a UK university you can sign up to this programme below which helps with CV and finding jobs but I get a pound for each sign up. If many people sign up it will help out a lot.

If you are on your phone there is an app that allow me also to get a pound for each sign up and it helps you earn money yourself so it is a win-win situation. Anyone can do this even medical students!

My aim in Nepal is to help provide basic health checks to children in Kathmandu school and do the same in the rural villages in Pokhara. If you want to help yourselves then check the link. My friend has been before and it is not only medical students that can help. Dentistry students, pharmacists and even if you do not have a degree you can help out in some way. The programme I plan to do specifically helps them out medically. I will be able to use my skills I learnt in third year to do such.

The second charity is called Maa. There is a programme called JourneyMaa which enables students to go on a journey to Bangladesh to help improve the healthcare in Sylhet specifically in the maternal health region. In a similiar fashion, I will be providing basic healthcare and learning about the extreme situations they are in and your donations would mean the world to them. It will help improve their access to healthcare and give mothers in Bangladesh a better chance of survival.
