What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

At Christmas 2016 my dad, David Collings, suffered a brain stem stroke. The stroke left him with Locked in Syndrome which means he is unable to move or communicate through speech. With intensive rehabilitation there is hope for David to regain some movement again.

At only 59 years when the stroke hit, this came as a shock to all of us - David's wife Carole, mother Eileen & father Brian, his children George (that's me), and my sister Abi and big bro Tim. David is also one of four - Alan, Paul and Julie - we're a big family!

David was an incredibly active man and he took on many famous "man challenges" including the London to Brighton Bike challenge...although he decided to start from Scotland!! He topped that with a cycle around England which took him six weeks averaging up to 80 miles a day. Later David caught the Wild Swimming bug and swam in Salford Quays and Lake Windermere.

All for two charities close to his heart Bluebell Woods Children Hospice and for ME Awareness - his wife Carole is a sufferer. He's raised money for charities but has also been awarded a 100 Platelets donor - a painstaking process. I think you'll agree - an all round amazing guy - but maybe I'm biased!

Now David needs the help of family and friends as the motorised wheelchair he so desperately needs costs £10,000. We're all hoping this wheelchair can give him the taste of the outdoors once again - a place where he always felt at home.

His family are all going to be clubbing together to raise the cash - you might say our own man and woman challenges - and I'll be posting them on this page to highlight everyone's efforts.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any money you can afford. And David also wants to thank you for helping to get him moving again.

The Collings Clan.

    Update from the Page owner

I work in a North London school in Wood Green, St Thomas More Catholic School. I've worked at the school for 7 years and they have been a huge source of support to me personally since my Dad's brain stem stroke. They've supported me once again with a whopping cheque. Thank you so much, we're so grateful. Huge shout out to Mrs Henry -my spiritual guide. God bless you Elaine xxx

Ben, Matt and Alan; nephews and brother to David are close to starting their very own man challenge to raise funds for my Dad's additional wheelchair equipment. The Yorkshire Three Peaks within 12 hours -no easy feat! My Dad survived so we are striving to help him live, with purpose and any aspect of independence will do that. The pennies and pounds add up and those who know David appreciate what that has amounted to already. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts - you're bloomin' brill! xxx

HERE COME THE BOYS! Fundraising needs to continue as we now need additional equipment to enable David to control Sparky himself. Independence in life whilst living with Locked in Syndrome is incomprehensible. Challenge accepted. David's brother Alan, nephews Ben & Matt are putting themselves up to the challenge of walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks! Walking 24 miles with 1585 metre ascent and a goal to finish (with backs and bones intact!) in under 12 hours. Please motivate the boys with your donations, all to KEEP DAVID MOVING. GO FOR IT LADS
