£550raised of £925 target by 15 supporters

Weʼve raised £550 to provide education and futures for children affected by sex trafficking and prostitution.

    London, United Kingdom
Funded on Thursday, 30th November 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

I will be doing a 200 mile bike ride from London to Paris, arriving on October 12th to raise funds, awareness and hope for Pratima*, and the women and children like her. Women and children who have been trafficked and sold into prostitution. Women that could be your mother or wife. Children that could be your niece or nephew. No one deserves to have their lives and dreams abused and destroyed, but it's a dark reality for too many victims the world over.

The target of £925 is the amount needed to fund Pratima's two children affected by prostitution and trafficking with a school education. All donations will be sent directly to New Light. Any amount, even the price of a cup of coffee can make a huge difference in putting the pieces back together of the lives ruined by trafficking and prostitution.

Even if you are unable to donate, I ask if you could take a minute to read Pratima’s story below and share if it has touched you. Being with Pratima and women like her not only changed my direction in life to living a more meaningful one, but changed me as a person. Perhaps learning about them could do the same for you.

*Pratima is a young woman I had the honour of working with at New Light – a non-profit organisation based in Calcutta, India that provides education, life skill training, and much needed TLC to vulnerable women and children affected by trafficking and prostitution. Spending time with her not only made me aware of the prejudice and extreme suffering she has gone through, but also the strength, courage and humility she has. Everyone would be humbled and want to create a better world if they met Pratima. Here is her story:

All little girls dream of becoming princesses, recognised for their worth and their place in the world, and little Pratima was certainly no different. She ran around the dusty streets of India, bright eyed, filled with love and with dreams as big as worlds. She had a smile that lit up even the darkest of moods, and softened the hardest of hearts. Yet at the age of five, when most children begin their first day of school, filled with anticipation, excitement and curiosity, Pratima began her first day of work. In a factory. Naked. Surrounded by men and hot and heavy hands. Instead of busily doing homework, Pratima’s extracurricular activities were complying with inappropriate advances.

At fourteen, when many children at school experience the innocence of their first love, Pratima had given birth to two baby boys. At this age, many children begin to lay the foundations for their dream career. Pratima, however, was sold into prostitution. With her two babies. By her husband. Education and skills would have provided Pratima with a viable escape route, but instead Pratima was raped of her dignity, raped of self-worth and raped of her future.

Whilst the story so far may be bleak, Pratima's future isn't necessarily so. Her children and many others are looked after by New Light; a magical NGO who take care of the shells of sex trafficked victims, and breathe into them a new lease of life. Her baby boys, now 14 and 15, are given food, shelter and schooling, but with growing numbers of children looking for help, bright futures aren't guaranteed.

So how will this story end? We decide. If you believe in making a difference, making dreams come true and believe in change, please support Pratima. A better, more caring world starts with us.

Be great, donate, and help Pratima’s children have a school education and a brighter future :-)

Children at New Light, India. May they always be safe and happy :-)

If you have any questions, or would like to know further information about New Light and the phenomenal work that they do to support trafficked and vulnerable women and children, please message me, or contact New Light directly.
