Story

Scarborough Athletic is a successful community football club, 100% owned by its fans.

An enormous amount of volunteer effort has recently been put into preparatory work for a new stand at the Flamingo Land Stadium. The aim is to improve the match day experience for our loyal supporters by building a covered stand, which will increase seating capacity and provide stepped terracing for better sight-lines.

The construction costs for the new stand will be primarily covered by a recent funding bid and the ‘naming rights’ money supplied by Scarborough Borough Council. However, the club has had to pay around £30,000 in up-front design, survey, and planning costs.

As part of its community remit, the club must ensure it strikes a sensible and sustainable balance between this one-off investment and putting a competitive and successful first team out on the pitch every week.

With that remit in mind, we are now crowd-funding for the stand development costs. Seadogs supporters Dave and Anita Hunter have kindly kick-started our fund-raising with a generous £2,000 donation, so our campaign target is £28,000.

With over 600 members and many more friends, we could achieve that target with a £50 donation. However, all contributions, large or small will help us on our way.

We will be running the appeal for six weeks up to Monday 3rd December. We hope that you feel you can play a part in helping us to drive the club forward.

Up the Boro!
