Story
My name is Niamh Powers and in the summer of 2019 I am hoping to travel to Tanzania with outlook expeditions, and my school, Streetly Academy.
During part of our 21 day trip we will be carrying our work within a village community and working with a local kindergarten. ( see extract below )
Part of our challenge is to fund raise the cost of the trip. I hope I can count on your support in trying to achieve my target, and my dream, of a once in a lifetime trip to Africa whilst carrying out community work to improve the life and education of the young children of Ndatu.
To truly understand this beautiful and complex country – we will immerse ourselves in its culture by contributing to a community project. We will be working with a local children’s trust in the small rural community of Ndatu, just outside Arusha on the flanks of Mount Meru.
The community came up with the idea of starting a kindergarten for Ndatu and the surrounding villages as there was no pre-primary education in the area. It opened in 2005 with just five students and now has over 70 !
During our project phase we will be camping in the village and preparing our own meals. Our work at the kindergarten will involve helping with building/renovation work, putting up fencing or planting trees. Throughout the project there will be a chance to help in the kindergarten and also organize games and activities for the children.
This is a fantastic way to learn about a way of life so very different from our own whilst giving something back to this amazing country.
