Story

Our dear friend Phil was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) 5 years ago, a terrible shock for a fit and active family man, barely into his forties. MND is a truly horrible and relentless disease that simply shows no mercy and for which there is no cure. It progressively stops your brain talking to your muscles and over time they stop working, affecting everything.

Despite truly heroic efforts Phil has got to the point where he can no longer walk, needs constant care as well as now needing a wheelchair get around. As you can imagine this has put a tremendous strain on Phil and his entire family. We are trying to raise funds for something that can make a real and very positive difference to their lives - to help Phil purchase an amazing electric wheelchair that will provide much needed mobility but also help him stand up and get around independently. The attached photos will give you an idea...

This is an amazing piece of kit but it's not cheap at £20,000 and we're desperate to help Phil get the money together to be able to purchase one. To this end my son Seb, who is 14 years old and an amputee from a serious accident 5 years ago, will be doing a 26 mile Marathon length circumvention of Rutland Water on his HAND-CYCLE! This is no easy feat, the route is hilly and has various tough off-road sections. Strenuous enough on a bike but many times worse for a 14 year old on a recumbent hand-cycle. We expect this to take him maybe 5 hours of eye-popping effort but he is determined to do this.

Seb says "So many people have helped me over the last 5 years and now that I'm able, I want to do this challenge to help Phil and his family and raise as much money as possible towards this amazing chair"

The date has been set for Sunday 30th June and the ask to our friends is that you support Seb in his challenge to raise funds to help Phil purchase a much needed piece of equipment that will make such a positive difference to his life.

Thank you so much for any support you can provide.
