Story

People having Cancer treatment, or those who have completed their Cancer treatment, always need support and help. Life with and after cancer is hard to adjust to. It can provoke strong emotions, fears and so much more. Thinking about daily tasks can prove hard, physically and psychologically. This is where The Macmillan Living with and Beyond Cancer Team comes in.They are a group of specialist nurses, practitioners and therapists who provide a variety of programmes to help and support cancer patients, through and after treatment. All this is done alongside offering help and support to families.

Many people know that after a long year, me and my family are now at this stage of gaining this help from the local team in Grimsby. They have done and are still doing amazing work for my family and many others. After my mum's treatment finished, she found herself worrying about her next steps. Even things like going out the house and getting back to building up her strength are both troubling and difficult. My mum came across this team at the hospice, and has received so much support. Still going through tests she was told she carries the BRACA 1 gene, and is still having more testing and genetics. This also means testing for myself, brother and aunties. For my mum and the family, the team at the hospice have been amazing by helping with communication between hospitals and finding out information. From meeting The Macmillan Living with and Beyond Cancer Team, the journey we are still on doesn't seem so dark. So I wanted to take the time to raise money for a great course, Macmillan. More specifically, I wanted to raise money for the Macmillan team close to home that have really helped us personally, to thank them for everything they have done and continue to do.

The funds raised will go straight to this team at the Hospice, the idea is that they can use this money for anything they need. Equipment (for physio, rooms, patients), putting on courses/workshops for patients, anything that will help the staff. Even if it is used for a staff retreat, they put so much work into making sure each and every patient/family member that walks through that door feels welcome and supported.

I am taking part in the Castle Howard Triathlon in July, The Yorkshire Tour 80 mile bike in August And the Humber Coastal Half Marathon in September . 3 big events in 3 months, I am participating in these events to try and raise as much as I can for the team at the Grimsby Hospice. Any donation no matter how little will help and go towards the care and support given to current and past Cancer patients, their families, and hopefully enough for the team themselves, to reward themselves with something they can all enjoy.
