    Story

    Nick’s 7 Day Challenge

This isn’t Nick’s first challenge (and we’re certain it won’t be his last!) In 2018, Nick ran a trio of triathlons to raise money on behalf of The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I). He didn’t stop there! In 2019, Nick and his trusty bicycle travelled 3,000 miles across Canada in just 30 days. The final amount raised was over 30k!

In 2020 with the UK lockdown in full effect, Nick wasn’t able to do a challenge. Since then, he’s been chafing at the bit to get out there, challenge himself and get fundraising.

The pandemic really highlighted the importance of supporting local community. Reflecting on this and a rather scary incident that happened this March at Frogmary, Nick has decided to keep this challenge local and support causes that are close to his heart and nearby his farm.

    What is the challenge?

Nick’s 7 Day Challenge begins on Saturday the 19th of June 2021 and ends on Friday the 25th – Every day for one week, Nick will run a half marathon and finish the other half on his bicycle. That's 26.2 miles every single day!

We’re aiming to raise at least £1,000 or more on behalf of Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and South Petherton C of E Infant School. Please support Nick (and his poor legs) as he embarks on his latest challenge.

What does Nick have to say?

“On March 12, I was involved in an accident. One of our Biomass woodchip boilers was not igniting correctly. After checking and opening an inspection hatch, the boiler ignited rather more quickly than I expected!

Our amazing team at Frogmary and Farm and Field Cafe leapt into action with a quick phone call to the emergency services, whose response was absolutely incredible!

To thank them, I wanted to set myself a challenge to raise money for our wonderful emergency services. Beginning Saturday 19th June (10 weeks from the accident), I will run a half marathon followed by cycling a half marathon every day for seven days.

If anyone would like to join me in running or cycling, you would be most welcome and it would be great for keeping my morale up. Whether virtually or in person, contact me to let me know you’d like to join in.

I have started increasing my training to help get into shape for the challenge. Thanks to Rob at AMPT for guiding me through yet another challenge. Already the thought of taking on another challenge is filling with both excitement and trepidation for the distances. Knowing I can give something back to our local community is filling me with motivation!”

    Who will this challenge support?

South Petherton C of E Infant School

We have a wonderful relationship with South Petherton C of E Infant School! When initially built, we offered each of the four classes at the Infant School a chance to spend 1 day a week at our SHED for Forest School, where they had the opportunity to experience real outdoor learning. This could be anything from science, geography, art or just enjoying nature!

In recent years, South Petherton has increasingly become a more popular village to live and seen a boom in its population. With the more recent challenges of the pandemic and particularly COVID restrictions on schools, we recognised the need to provide additional space to support the Infant School.

To help, our SHED has become a permanent residence for their Year One cohort this year. We’d like to support them further by raising funds for their school and helping them continue have a positive impact on and provide an ‘outstanding’ education for the children of South Petherton.

    Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance

Operating for over 20 years, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is a vital service. From their base, they can be anywhere in Dorset and Somerset within 20 mins.

During Nick’s incident in March, he was flown up to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. They have the nearest intensive burns unit for many across Somerset and Dorset!

In an ambulance, the journey is around 64.5 miles and could take hours – this time is critical to a patient’s survival.

Dorset & Somerset air ambulance rely on fundraising and the average cost of a mission is £3,000! To support their amazing work and keep them saving lives, we will be raising funds on their behalf. We can’t thank the air ambulance team enough for their timely response, their care during the journey and Nick’s safe arrival at Southmead hospital.
