My name is Nicki Givin and on Saturday 9th September, my husband Ste and I are taking part in Tough Mudder to raise funds for our beautiful boy Shea.
Shea was diagnosed in September 2010 with a rare genetic disorder called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).
He went from being a happy, healthy 6 year old, living life to the full, to being totally reliant on us 24 hours a day to care for his needs.
Shea's health needs are extremely complex, meaning even a quick trip to the shops or the cinema means lots of planning, assessing and preparation. He relies on lots of equipment and medication to keep him alive and well, enabling him to enjoy life and spending quality time together as a family.
At times this is really difficult and with two other children (Malachy & Maebh) they too have their lives disrupted and it can be frightening for them if Shea is unwell and it means me and Ste have to be with Shea.
This is why family time is so important to us and it makes it so precious.

The dream is FLORIDA!!!
The dream is big and feels a little bit out of reach at the moment as Shea's health has deteriorated over the last 6 months.
We won't rule it out just yet and if it's too ambitious there will be other dreams and adventures Shea will undertake.

The challenge!!
Tough Mudder is exactly what it sounds like......tough, strenuous obstacles set over a 10 mile course. We're doing it with a team of about 12 others. Our Team Fit2burn are currently training hard to make sure we are as prepared as can be to finish the course safely.
It's a challenge but one that we are excited to do and knowing it's all for Shea will give us that extra push when we need it most to finish.
