Story
Please support Nicola, Darren, Emily, Eve and Tom as we take part in the Belfast Marathon 2025 as a to raise money for Versus Arthritis and Adapt NI.
Emily was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease aged just three years old. Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) causes pain and damage in bones due to inflammation, my little girl was suddenly living each day in pain and we became regulars with the staff at Musgrave Park Hospital for numerous treatments. Fast forward a few years to 2023 just as Emily starts university and another new diagnosis of Spondyloarthritis, the cause of her lower back pain and stiffness.
That is a much shortened version of our story but ultimately, despite everything she has faced, anyone who knows Emily will describe her as bubbly, happy and energetic because that's what she is, despite her daily suffering she has always put a smile on her face, got on with things and achieved everything she puts her mind to. My Superstar.
The hospital put us in touch with Versus Arthritis as a source of information and support. They arranged activity trips which gave Emily the opportunity to meet other kids going through the same things as her and provided support during hospital visits. Emily has now joined the team as a volunteer, something we are so proud of - always thinking of others.
It never fails to shock and sadden me, during our numerous visits to Musgrave Park, the number of children affected with so many various forms of this disease. Versus Arthritis invests in breakthrough treatments, the best information and vital support for everyone affected by arthritis. Their work is so important which is why we want to support them in our running efforts.
We have also decided to raise funds for Adapt NI, a non/profit organisation who’s main focus is providing specialist employment and training services for deaf, hearing loss, and tinnitus communities across Northern Ireland.
Every donation is greatly appreciated, not just on behalf of these amazing charities but for your support of us as a team which will encourage us to give it our all!
