I am a Year 1 teacher at an international school in Bangkok. There is a boy who started in my class last September. He is very academic and a gifted mathematician, but above all, he is a happy, kind and gentle little boy. Just before the Summer holiday, I noticed that he was struggling to form words and seemed less coordinated than before. I spoke to his parents and encouraged them to take him to a doctor.
The news that came back was simply devastating. He was diagnosed as having a brain tumour and it is inoperable. The tumour is terminal. He is just 7 years old.
This lovely little boy is currently well enough to be at school. He wants to be in school. Like any other 7 year old, he wants to play and be with his friends. His exceptionally brave and very loving mother and father are living through every parents’ worst fear. He is their only child. IThey don’t want him to know about his illness, therefore I have kept his name off this page.
The healthcare system in Thailand is not the same as in the UK. Each daily chemotherapy tablet costs 400 pounds. His parents are funding his treatment and are desperately looking for new therapies and drugs to help him.
I want to help this lovely family in any way possible, and I am running the Angkor Wat Half Marathon in Camdodia on December 4th to raise money to help pay for his treatment. Hopefully contributing something towards these huge costs will show them that people are thinking of them at this terrible time, and I really want to help their son in any way I can.
