We are Dodworth Miners Welfare and have been at the heart of sporting and social activities in Dodworth and the surrounding communities since 1926.

We are looking to raise £4000 to start the work to regenerate the Welfare to make it a community resource for Dodworth to be proud of..

Our unique facility has been in operation since 1956 and is, despite the best efforts of our volunteers, starting to show signs of its age. Rather than putting in place short term “sticking plaster” solutions we are looking to regenerate the Welfare to make it fit for purpose both now and into the future. This will include adopting sustainable technologies to lower the ongoing running costs which in turn will make the facilities accessible to more local people. We also want to make the Welfare more accessible for those with disabilities and through enhanced features make it more attractive to other groups – such as women and older people.

Currently at Dodworth Miners Welfare we are host to a multi-age Junior and Senior Football Club, a Crown Green Bowling Club, a Brass Band, a boxing gym and a local Rugby Club. On site we have a social club which serves local patrons and visitors alike and offers a function room for a small cost-covering fee.

On an average weekend over 600 people visit the welfare each week to take part in or watch the sporting activities hosted on site. This audience is hugely varied including an age range from 6 years old participants to older spectators and any age in between. This audience is hugely diverse and is drawn from across Sheffield, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Doncaster.

We are not trying to raise money to pay for the cost of these improvements. We simply need to raise money for a feasibility study to be conducted which will open the gateway to the funding that is available to multi-sports facilities across the country. We are 99% confident we can secure this funding with the professional assistance provided by this study.
