I've raised £150 to buy emergency sleeping bags, blankets and warm clothing etc for Newbury and surrounding areas rough sleepers.

**UPDATE: due to overwhelming support, with direct donations and Just Giving we have now raised over £3000! This has meant that much needed supplies were delivered to numerous local charities and the homeless alike. The homeless are in need of your help 365 days of the year. It costs just £5 a day to provide a bed for the night, a hot meal, shower and vital support services. Please help us to keep giving. Thank you ❤️**
The homeless shelter closes Sunday, some of Newburys & surrounding areas rough sleepers will be at the mercy of this weather. With a real feel of -15 they are at real risk. Please help us to raise what we can to buy emergency sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing etc. The aim of this appeal is to assist our local charities, who do a fantastic job 365 days a year. This is our community lets show we care. ❤️
Thank you 🙏
Dee‘s Story:
Whether you believe in fate, karma or a sign from above, yesterday it happened to us.
As we turned a bitterly cold corner, we saw her sat there, quietly with her meagre worldly possessions around her. A cup of coffee, hot toastie and a lovely chat later we learned ‘Dee’ is just like you and me, up until last year she lived in a house and had a job, then the world intervened. Dee did not appear to be drug or alcohol dependant and she wasn’t begging. She was incredibly humble when asked what she needed as we were off to the shops, she hesitated and embarrassingly answered ‘knickers and socks please’ She could of asked for anything but she didn’t. I stood there shocked trying to hold back the tears saying to myself ‘Nicola get a bloody grip, crying is not going to help her!’ As I chose her some nice undies (hey a girls still got standards right) ☺️, it suddenly hit me how sad it is that she has to rely on the kindness of others to purchase the most basic and intimate of things. We gave her what she asked for along with a warm blanket and some warm clothing. How nice it must of felt to receive something new, nothing fancy just something that wasn’t a hand-me-down. What a lovely women who couldn’t of been more grateful. I guess the point of sharing this is to let you know that the money you have given makes a real difference to real lives. And finally on the subject of kindness when I showed Dee how much we had raised she smiled, a great big cheeky smile that said ‘people do care’That smile will stay with me forever and whenever I doubt why I do this I’ll think back to Dee sat there on the corner in the freezing cold with the snow falling around her. If she can smile in the most horrible of situations so can I! ❤️ NT
