Story

From Peter Brawley..After Remembrance Day last year I had a call from a Culter resident who was very upset at the condition of the path to the War Memorial. I visited the path and it is indeed in very poor condition. 97 names are on our War Memorial and I think we owe them the respect of providing a safe and well maintained path to allow people to visit the Memorial.
I consulted with our church minister John Ferguson who said “There is an annual service at the war memorial on Remembrance Sunday which I lead. It is attended by members of the public and the uniformed organizations. A good reason to improve the path would be because of this, where its muddy condition can sometimes put people off.”

The upper half of the path is in reasonable condition, it is the lower half which needs to be repaired. This needs to be done in a professional way, providing drainage to take the water away from the path and putting in place a tarmac surface. The cost will be £7,000. Aberdeen City Council has kindly donated £4,000, meaning we need to raise £3,000. We hope to raise this money via Crowdfunding. Please help if you can by making a donation, no matter how small.

Have you ever wondered if one of your family members is on the Memorial? If you want to find out about one of the listed names, the Culter Heritage Centre can help. Just click on the link below and fill in the question form at the bottom of the web page. They will do their best to let you know the story of the person you have asked about.
