Seeing an 18 yea old lad have such a life changing accident is one of the hardest things any family will have to endure. My 18 year old nephew was knocked off his motor bike through no fault of his own and thrown into a lamp post, which shattered his leg so badly that after two operations the doctors had to make the desision to remove his dying leg before it killed him. After nearly a month in hospital he's finally home with his family where he belongs. He keeps his smile on his face for the world, but in reality the daily struggles he has to deal with are an enormous challenge. Losing his leg is difficult enough, but losing his privacy and independence is just as dibilitating.
I'm trying to raise money to fit out a new bathroom for my nephew so he can have a shower and use the toilet / brush his teeth, in the most accessible way is possible for an 18 year old who has just lost a limb through no fault of his own, also to supply aids around the house so he may be able to regain some of his indepency and not have to rely on his family and friends to with every mundane task that You and I take for granted. I don't want to watch him struggle and feel so disheartened trying to do basic procedures round the house that steals his independence and embaresses him in front of others. He's 18 years old and needs help to regain his independence. By giving him back his privacy and making things accesable, whilst not making him feel like he's living in a nursing home, we can help build back up his confidence self worth.
