FUN - charity commission number 1027046
A small Suffolk based charity which helps adults with learning difficulties to relieve or reduce such difficulty by providing fun through recreational facilities and activities; including providing respite care and support.
FUN was created by the parents of George Gaynor, the brother of one of my close friends. It first started with occasional group summer day trips, with friends and family volunteering as helpers. Twenty years on and with 30 employees the charity now runs provides fun and respite to over fifty families.
The ethos remains the same, and that is to enable the guests and tenants to enjoy the activities they choose; to enjoy independence from their families; and to have a 'home from home'.
Although the supported living is funded by Suffolk County Council, the respite care provision for three guests at a time has to be funded by voluntary contributions and private donations. In this way, FUN can support over fifty families who would struggle to stay together without regular respite breaks.
With a dedicated team of trained care support workers and wheel chair accessible vehicles, FUN can ensure guests have a great time, whether at the respite care home, or out and about.
Simultaneously, this relieves the pressure on the parent care givers, who are free to enjoy some time on their own.
A win-win situation! We sincerely thank you for any support you can give.
