Story

Children leaving care are given a grant of £1500 with which to buy everything you would need to furnish and flat or house. For most young people carpets/flooring is their biggest expenditure, depending on the size of the property these young people can pay anywhere between £650--£850 on flooring alone!

Think of everything you needed to furnish your first home: Kitchen table, Chairs, Rubbish bin, Clock, Kettle, Toaster, Microwave, Pots and Pans, Cutlery, Cooking utensils, Mugs, Glasses, Plates, Sweeping brush, Dustpan and brush, Mop and bucket, Vacuum cleaner, Couch, Curtains, including curtain rod or Blinds, including brackets at top of window, Lamp, or floor lamp, TV, including something to put it on such as a TV stand or small table, Paintings, or prints to decorate, Bed, Mattress, Wardrobe, Chest of drawers, Bed sheets, Duvet, Duvet cover and pillowcases, Pillows, Alarm clock, Hangers for your clothes, Mirror ,Shower Curtain, including shower rings to hang it from, Towels, Towel rack, Bathroom mat, Toilet brush, Plunger, Toilet roll holder!

Some things you can buy second hand but there are somethings you cant. Many of our young people do not have families to turn to who can help them out with furniture or essentials they need. They are alone.

The prospect of living alone at 18 is scary enough but watching a young person trying to stretch a budget and realising they haven't got enough is heartbreaking. We are trying to raise money to help them purchase one of the essential items they will need, a cooker, a washing machine, a fridge freezer. Not a second hand one that they found on gum-tree or face book, but a new one that won’t break down within the first year and end up costing them more in the long run. We want to help them stay away from debt and companies like Bright House (Don’t get me started on that place).

If they are working or in full time education we would like to be able to give them the money to cover one of these items.

At present we have two people moving out and I would like to raise £400 (£200 each) to buy them each one of the items mentioned above.

Please give as much as you can to help make a real difference in a young persons life.
