I'm raising £750 to support the community in Nepal

Story

I'm raising £750 for a community project at St Ignatius Church in Nepal; which as part of the broader network of activities supports mobile clinics, special schools, and the general material welfare of the people. The Catholic Church is small: making up 0.03% of the population; there are 113 priests and 211 nuns serving across 14 parishes.

I baptised Gele Bishokarma in December 2023 at St Patrick’s here in Edinburgh. He took the name of Andrew in Baptism thanks to the Patron Saint of Scotland, the place where he discovered the Faith, and St Joseph for his Confirmation patron as the Guardian of the Holy Family and Protector of the Universal Church. I promised him that I’d meet him on his own native soil, and I’d like to help the Church there in any way I can with a small mission, at least to just see our Catholic Faith lived out in the highest point on Earth. I raised funds to travel to Nepal thanks to Lady Macduff and her litter. I’ve been given donations from the Parish here in Edinburgh to take with me, and now I’m asking close to my departure, if you’d be willing to give a little yourself in charity, in alms, donations to help support the poorest Parish in Kathmandu, that is part of the wider Jesuit Mission in Nepal which spreads faith, hope and love, but doesn’t have a great deal of material support. I will be able to withdraw from my own bank account whatever you donate during my journey 1st to 23rd May, and hand it directly to the Parish Priest, Father Paul K.C., SJ.

I will be taking 12 days holiday as well when I’m there, Gele insisted that I must absolutely let him take me to Mount Everest Basecamp. It wouldn’t be my first option for R&R, and I’m filled with some trepidation, but I won’t refuse his hospitality. Any funds you provide are for the Church and its community projects, not for my holiday!

If you prefer to donate directly to my bank account, please message me directly.

Above all, your prayers for safe travel and a successful service to the Church in Nepal are most appreciated, beyond whatever you might be able to give materially.
