Story

Mastana is CUHCS’s flagship event, one of the biggest student Asian cultural in the UK featuring the best talent from around Cambridge and beyond . This ranges from Indian twists on comtemporary and classical Western acts, classical Indian dance and music, comedy and much more. First initiated in 1996, previously the show has been attended by over 500 people from all over the country, raising in excess of £5,000 for various Indian and local Cambridge charities.

This year we are raising money for Mind, a UK Mental Health charity and the Saroj Gupta Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Kolkata, India. The former is especially relevant for students at the University of Cambridge, where it is estimated that around half of the university populous suffers from a mental health disorder. The latter charity has a special personal significance since it was where my grandmother was cared at the end of her life and money raised will be given directly to a trustee of the institute.

As a show, we receive no university funding, so are dependent on the generous donations we receive: we are sincerely grateful for any donation and are working hard to support these fantastic causes!

If you have any questions about the show or the charities we are supporting, please feel free to email me at nb548@cam.ac.uk.

Many thanks for all your support,

Nishant Bommayya,

Mastana 2018 President
