Story
OUTLINE:
A fundraising appeal to raise funds for ‘Chora Chori’ - a UK based charity which aims to confront violence and abuse against displaced and trafficked Nepali children. To support our cause, we aim to complete the 3 peaks challenge under 24 hours in August 2019.
WHO ARE WE?
Deevas, Niten and Anish (D N A) – all three of us are sons of ex-British Army Gurkha servicemen. We will be joined by our friends Rob and Felix who will be taking part in this challenge with us. In short, we’re a group of friends, or ‘band of brothers’, who share values and passion for charity work, philanthropic ventures and outdoor fitness.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdonia (Wales), ascending a total of 3,064 m (10,053 feet)
Fully self-supported and doing the challenge with a 10 – 15 kg weighted rucksack
Total of 14 - 15 hours of hiking, and driving 462 miles (743 km)
All the above, under 24 hours!
WHO ARE WE FUNDRAISING FOR?
“ChoraChori” is the Nepali word for “children”. It is also the name of a UK registered charity that’s rescuing Nepal’s displaced and trafficked children from India.
According to UNICEF, 12,000 children are trafficked to India from Nepal every year. Most are destined for brothels; some are forced into bonded labour, marriage or even organ removal.
ChoraChori ‘s mission is to rescue Nepali children from abusive situations in Nepal and India, manages their trauma and reintegrates them with their families and communities. Where this is not possible, we provide for children’s care, education and training until they can look after themselves as young adults.
