Story
If you have suffered from the crippling effects of an addiction to gambling, whether it's yourself, an effected family member or loved one, then this will interest you.
Since a young age I developed a gambling habit and once I became more financially independent, my wages each week/month would then be spent on fruit machines in pubs and then progressed to Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) in high street bookmakers. Then with the advancement of the internet, this habit turned into a gripping addiction, with an unpresidented and unlimited ability to bet online. This would result in my monthly disposable income (and much more) often being spent within hours, or if I got temporarily lucky, days. I took ownership of my addiction and sought professional help on numerous occasions over the years but the grip of addiction always pulled me back.
Over the last year, having finally felt able to manage the addiction, I began to scrutinise the past and current practices of the online companies I held accounts with (this being between 60-80). As a consequence I have built a number of good cases that show;
- that several companies allowed me to gamble after I had informed them I had a gambling problem.
- that several companies sent me marketing emails/texts after I had informed them of problem gambling.
- that several companies failed to intervene during periods of very heavy gambling activity.
All of the above points are contrary to licence conditions, as stated by the Gambling Commission via the LCCP.
I've had the ability to build these cases but it appears that the power of these companies, coupled with the fact that the Gambling Commission absolve themselves of responsibility, has led me to ask that I receive legal help to bring these companies to the courts. *This has not been done before and there are reasons for this* The companies yield great power.
Help me take a stand against this power and let's get this issue out into the public domain.
Thanks so much.
