Story

In February 2016, the father of my grandchildren Noah and Evelyn (just 2 years and 8 months old) had their lives changed forever - their father Leo was diagnosed with a grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a rare malignant brain tumour.

Noah and Evelyn only have a limited time to make magical memories with their mum and dad. Memories that can be recorded and relived and enjoyed to carry them through their lives.

When Leo was diagnosed his initial response was: “The biggest problem with this tumour is I have a wife and children – It’s my family I’m worried about.”

Leo - Noah and Evelyn’s daddy, was given the option of treatment or not. He chose to fight for his family, to fight the tumour and accepted all the treatment available. Leo’s bravery and determination to be there for his children is inspirational. Leo immediately underwent a life-saving craniotomy – a form of brain surgery. Then a further fully awake craniotomy where Leo couldn’t even be put to sleep for the initial stages of the surgery. He is fighting for his children, to make memories, to be with them as long as he can. Leo was given a prognosis of between 1 and 3 years following the second craniotomy. He had to relearn everything to be able to function. Leo has since completed 30 sessions of radiotherapy and 6 cycles of chemotherapy. Attends oncology, neurology, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language and palliative care at Y Bwthyn Newydd.

Leo is a heroic father who gives every essence of himself to his wife and children. Leo wants to create magical memories for the children. The children deserve to have the experiences and capture the memories that families create.

This is why I have created this crowd funding page for my grandchildren. I am going to run the Cardiff half marathon (22k or 13 miles) 1st October 2017. Until 10 weeks before it I had not run further that 5k- and that was over 2 years ago. If Leo can be as heroic as he is, pushing personal limits is nothing that determination and motivation cannot achieve.

Help Noah and Evelyn have the financial means to make fantastical, magical, childhood memories in the time they have left with their adoring and adorable daddy.

Sponsor me in the half marathon, share this page, be part of the reason these beautiful children are able to create memories. If you can set up your own fundraising cake days, sports events, treasure hunts, anything at all will help. Please use this crowdfunding page for the sponsorship and donations.

Be part of a team - Team Noah and Evelyn - knowing that you have made a lifelong difference to two very young children who deserve the magical memories with their daddy.
