Story

On Thursday 11th March 2021, the cabinet of Babergh District council voted 6-2 in favour of a bid to redevelop the Belle Vue pool site and house.

The cabinet voted for option B: "New build retirement living development pool site, house conversion to two residential dwellings."

Via our Facebook groups we have been campaigning to retain the land for community use, it is regarded as open space as defined in the open spaces act of 1906.

The community action group as a whole now has over 2000 members and represents those against residential development on the Belle Vue site and the desecration of our public town centre community space.

We would like to see the whole of the park, previously used recreation space (old swimming pool site etc) and Belle Vue House retained for the community of Sudbury and future generations. We believe it should be developed/regenerated in a way that benefits the wellbeing and enjoyment of the whole community and equally improves tourism for Sudbury.

On Monday 22nd March 2021, the Babergh District Council Overview and Scrutiny committee voted 5-1 in favour of upholding the decision.

We require up to £20,000 funding for our legal battle, a specialist team are now representing us on this action. That is a high target but we are confident of achieving it and we will fight this decision to the end!

**We urgently need your help in overturning this decision via a legal challenge. Feel free to join our public Facebook group: Belle Vue Action Group and our private group Sudbury People against development at Belle Vue Park
