    Story

Norman over his lifetime has helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities and organisations in South Cave and further afield. His commitment to South Cave Sporting Club over the years was to seeing it grow from a caravan to a purpose built pavilion, in which he has celebrated his 60th Wedding Anniversary with his Wife Wendy and recently his 90th birthday. It is officially named The Norman Elliott Pavilion.

Many people will be familiar with Norman playing football and cricket up at the Bull Field over the years and as the groundsman and secretary giving his time ensuring everything ran smoothly for the football and cricket teams. He was also church warden for South Cave for over 30 years assisting 5 vicars and a keen member and secretary of the Rotary Club in Howden for over 35 years, all voluntarily commitments. In addition to this Norman worked full time for the National Farmers Union group secretary for 33 years assisting farmers in a huge variety of day to day issues and challenges.

He also spent his time visiting elderly and housebound villagers of South Cave and the local area, giving lifts to people who needed to get to hospital and promoting sporting activities in local schools. Not to forget once a year dusting off his red suit and beard to transform into South Cave's Father Christmas!

In 2012 Norman was awarded an MBE by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace for his service to the community.

Over the last 12 months Norman's health declined and eventually needed the care of Macmilllan and Marie Curie who have supported him and his family until he peacefully passed away at home on 18.1.23 surrounded by family.

Following on in Norman’s footsteps we have set up this Just Giving page in his memory to raise money for 2 incredible charities who have really made a difference to Norman and our family over the last few months. They have enabled him to remain in his own home, as he wished, surrounded by loving family until the day he died, giving support and care throughout.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and help supporting these 2 charities very close to all of our hearts.
