Story

Neither is [the Torah] beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who among us can cross to the other side of the sea and get it for us and teach it to us, that we may do it'? No, the thing is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to do it. [Deuteronomy 30:13-4]

Where in the UK can we find Torah learning that:

- provides the skills to unlock our own tradition

- isn't afraid to plumb difficult texts for meaning

- is open to everyone, regardless of background, denomination or gender?

Azara is born from Open Talmud Project, which has been running Talmud intensives for the last twelve years. Now we're ready to take our learning to the next level. We want to provide more evening classes and short courses, in-person and online, so people can learn no matter their other commitments. We want to help people to learn in the original language, and to realise that they can also learn just as they are. Biggest of all, we want to make long-term, immersive learning possible in Britain - because the Torah is not beyond the sea. It's here.

We need your help to make this happen. Whatever you can give - money, time, website-building skills, marketing know-how - we can't do it without you. Send us an email or scroll down to the 'contact Azara' button. Regardless of your contribution, you'll be welcome to learn with us, because we're opening the Beit Midrash to everyone.

This project is spearheaded by Jessica Spencer, Rabbi Leah Jordan, and Dr Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz. Find out more at https://www.azara.org.uk .

It is not your duty to finish the work, but nor are you free to desist from it. [Pirkei Avot, 2:16]
