Story
Half Marathon for Nottingham Cathedral Music
As Director of Music, I have the privilege of seeing first hand how music can change the lives of young people and help them to grow as musicians and people whilst encouraging them in their faith.
Because of this I am running the Robin Hood Marathon on Sunday September 29th to support the Music Department and raise much needed funds to cover a scholarship and resources for the Boys and Girls Choir.
One scholarship costs £1200 and helps to train and encourage university students in their singing careers. It is a great opportunity and we have been fortunate to have some fantastic scholars in recent years who have gone on to be successful musicians after their scholarship.
The other £800 will go towards buying much needed resources for our children's choir as we look to train the church musicians of the next generation. We would like to invest in good quality folders for the choir to use at concerts and Masses, as well as new music, and materials to improve the choir's robes.
We were fortunate to receive a set of albs as a donation, and we are looking to improve on these in collaboration with the Arts and Crafts Group here at the cathedral.
The children's choirs are a fantastic opportunity in which the children gain experience of singing in Masses, a range of big diocesan liturgies and concerts, and also get make great friends and experience trips to Walsingham, Lourdes, and other team building activities.
Anything you give goes directly towards building and improving the musical tradition here at the Nottingham Cathedral so please give generously!
Thank you!
Greg

16 days agoWe are nearly there! Including cash donations, we are less than £50 from reaching our £2000 target. Thank you so much for all your support and generosity towards the music department. All donations are still gratefully received and if you would donate but want to know what your money will go towards; any donations over the £2000 target will be used to subsidise trips for the children's choir. These trips will include team building trips, chorister training days, and places on the Faith Summer Break. Thanks again for all your support!

18 days agoThanks again to all those who have donated to the campaign! I have been blown away by your support, and amazed that we have nearly reached out target. I have received a further £160 in cash donations which brings our total to just over £1600, which is an amazing achievement. Training has been going well, and I am now tapering my running to make sure I am ready! I'm looking forward to bringing you more updates and i hope that we can reach our goal of £2000 to support our children and young people. Greg
