Story
During 2021, Marcus Rashford challenged the government and society as a whole to ensure that children did not go to bed hungry. A local café owner, the parish vicar and Chrissie Morris discussed and Nourish Sherwood was born. The aim to provide local people struggling to feed their families and themselves with a nourishing meal, initially one day a week, no questions asked. The Café facilities were available on Mondays and for 6 weeks teams of local volunteers purchased, cooked and gave out meals. The café became unavailable and St Martin’s (C of E) church, offered use of their building and facilities free of charge. On average 120 meals have been given out each week for nearly two years, surprisingly more to elderly residents than families with young children. In addition, after lockdowns ceased, a welcoming café style environment is offered each Monday afternoon, as part of a “Warm Space” also aiming to combat the pandemic of loneliness that often prevails.
As we enter the last quarter of 2022, we are seeing more new families with young children seeking help. We appreciate every gift - every penny is used to provide the meals, no one is paid - the whole team volunteers. Thanks
