Bound by Mountains: Riding Beyond Borders

This summer, I’m undertaking a self-funded cycling adventure challenge to raise money to replenish the Now on Earth Youth Adventure Grant 🙂

The Now on Earth Youth Adventure Grant (NOEYAG) is a grant aimed at supporting young adults who wish to undertake an adventurous expedition, and small charitable/grass-roots organisations taking young people on outdoor adventure experiences.

The Challenge

5 COUNTRIES | 3 SUMMITS | 700km/13,000m

We plan to ride a mountainous gravel cycling route from Sarajevo in Bosnia & Herzegovina, through Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo, finishing in Skopje, North Macedonia, and climbing three significant mountains on foot along the way.

The name 'Bound by Mountains' is a reminder that adventure connects people across nations, and that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. Our journey weaves through the Dinaric Alps, mountains which traverse multiple countries, paying no heed to the dividing lines drawn on the ground.

Why a Youth Adventure Grant?

We know that adventure can have a hugely positive and long-term impact on self-confidence, resilience and fulfilment. At a time when mental health challenges in young people are genuinely on the rise, we think access to adventure and the outdoors is less of a luxury and more of a necessity.

The grants we offer through NOEYAG are modest and intentional, designed to remove the financial barrier for people who’d otherwise struggle to make it happen.

The £3,000 target will fund:

• £1,500 for individual young adventurers

• 3 x £500 awards for grassroots youth groups

The challenge is self-funded – all sponsorship goes to the grant fund.
