Story

I am currently a second year nursing student at Edge Hill University. In January 2019 I am visiting Takoradi in Ghana for 4 weeks, where I will be dividing my time nursing in the children’s hospitals and the local villages in the community.

Ghana is a developing country where I will be spending my time nurisng in low-resourced, unhygenic environments. I will experience first hand the reality of the pain, suffering and poverty that children and their families experience every single day. Nursing in the local chileren‘s hospitals and community villages, I‘m hoping to provide education and support to the healthcare system, delivering effective care to patients and their families whilst sharing my knowledge with other healthcare professionals. I am hoping to make a difference to children‘s lives, leaving a postive impact whilst improving the quality of lives.

I’m very proud to work for the NHS in the UK, however I feel as though many of us take it for granted. Nurisng in Ghana will allow me to see how other healthcare systems work and enable me to enhance my learning on the epidemiology of conditions/diseases that are not prevalent in the UK.

The total cost of my healthcare placement will be approximately £3000. The money I am fortunate enough to raise will contribute towards covering the costs of the healthcare placements and resources such as toys, clothes and activities for the children whom I will be caring for.

Any donations (no matter how small) would be a huge help!! Its for a fabulous cause❤️
