Story

UPDATE -What can I say - a massive huge thank you to everyone who has donated so I have reached my initial goal of £300. Anymore additional donations will go towards my July trip and work with The Paalam International School via the Dust Project. A cold 5k run this morning (Sun 4th) and my time has gone down to 46 mins!

Nyah 4.3.18

My name is Nyah Nish and I am one of the 10 young actors from Act 2 Academy, based in Highams Park who is volunteering in Sri Lanka this Summer 2018. I decided to get involved with The Dust Project because I am fortunate to live in London where I have access to free education, healthcare and a roof over my head. I will be volunteering at The Palaam International School helping children who don’t have the privileges I take for granted.

ABOUT THE DUST PROJECT

In July this year, Act 2 Academy School will travel to Sri Lanka and volunteer for 3 weeks at The Paalam International School, working with 300 young students. After surviving a tsunami and a civil war, an estimated 900,000 Sri Lankan children aged 5 to 17 were displaced and orphaned and lots were exploited for child labour and prostitution; a large number are never able to attend school. During the civil war, many young boys (as young as 10) were recruited for combat in certain areas of the country.

The Dust Project helps the forgotten children of the world. Through funding construction and education projects, the charity transforms communities and gives hope to children and young people worldwide.

The £300 I hope to raise will go towards helping children at The Paalam International School - so they can enjoy their childhood. As well as volunteering at the school, we plan on visiting an orphanage in Jaffna.

I will be running (or rather jogging) my first 5k run in Victoria Park, Hackney on Good Friday. For me this is a serious challenge as I am really not fond of running further than a 100 metres!! My aim is to undertake this in 40 minutes or less - so slashing a good 10 minutes off my current time. So not a time for the history books but for me a feat!

Thank you for your donations.
