Weʼre raising £50,000 to build a water borehole, new toilets, and a playground at Nyansakia Primary School in Kenya.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Nyansakia Primary School is an under-resourced school in an under-served community, which is typical of sub-Saharan Africa. It lacks basic facilities that most of us take for granted, such as clean water, adequate sanitation, and playground facilities.

But, the school is forward-thinking and wants more for its children and the local community. Its Board of Management has partnered with African Development Choices to build:

o A water borehole to provide clean water

o Two new toilet blocks for girls and boys

o A playground within school grounds

The school has allocated land for the project, and African Development Choices is funding the construction and maintenance of facilities through fundraising.

WHY THE PROJECT IS NEEDED

We have made a short video about the school to highlight the problem and how it is affecting the children. Watch it below to find out more about Nyansakia Primary School and how this project will make a difference:

PROJECT PHASES

PHASE 1: Drill a Water Borehole

We have identified a local drilling company in Kenya that will drill the borehole and install a pump, tank, and water treatment facilities. They will also provide ongoing maintenance and support to our local staff.

PHASE 2: Build New Toilet Blocks with Washing Facilities for Girls and Boys

We have identified biodigesters as the most suitable and eco-friendly solution for sewage treatment and recycling. They will allow us to reuse water from sewage treatment to flush the toilets.

PHASE 3: Build a Playground

We have chosen a local playground equipment supplier in Kenya who will:

o Design the playground

o Transport equipment to the site

o Install

o Provide support and training to our local maintenance staff

HOW WILL THE CHILDREN AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY BENEFIT FROM YOUR DONATION?

The project will bring many direct and indirect benefits to the children and the surrounding community, such as:

o Happier and healthier children

o Better academic and extracurricular outcomes

o Better childhood development outcomes

o Better water and sanitation (WASH) outcomes

o Improved well-being/quality of life

o Local employment opportunities

o Upskilling of local labour though free training

o Procurement of local building materials

Please donate and help us provide clean water, new toilets, and playground facilities for the children at Nyansakia Primary School. Even the smallest donation will make a difference.
