Story

A couple of members of staff at CNCS have been personally affected with family members being diagnosed with brain cancer. Charlotte’s BAG is one of the only UK charities specifically focussing on raising funds for research into, and awareness of, glioblastoma multiforme. This very rare form of brain cancer can affect anyone of any age. However, the plasticity of the brain as it develops during adolescence means that enormous changes are taking place, making any treatment for glioblastoma even more challenging.

Brain cancer is significantly underfunded, with only 1% of annual spending going towards research into cancers of the brain. This is one reason why there has been so little progress to date. A team of staff at Cardinal Newman Catholic School are walking 24 miles through the night from Eastbourne to school in Hove to raise money for Charlotte's BAG. Every single penny we raise will go directly to research via Stergios’ team at King’s College Hospital, London. Their work includes faster testing for new and existing drugs to target glioblastoma, getting drugs to clinics quickly and developing new ways of delivering medication directly to the site of the tumour.
