The Dave Howlett 50 Celebration: tenacity and generosity, saving lives at sea. On 20th/21st May 1972, Dave Howlett rowed his homemade boat "Tenacity of Wight" from St. Peter Port, Guernsey to Shanklin, Isle of Wight, to raise money for the RNLI. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his amazing adventure, I'm retracing his oarstrokes in the relative comfort of the overnight Condor ferry from St. Peter Port to Portsmouth, then on to Shanklin, carrying special philatelic covers just as Dave did.
