I've raised £5000 to The Jaco Steenberg Trust - Occie Dam

This page is setup in tribute to our friend Jaco Steenberg who sadly passed away on Sunday 9th July 2017 aged 35. A passionate rugby player he embodied everything the sport is about. A loved member of Oundle Rugby Club, a long servant of Peterborough Lions Rugby Club and former fly half for the Griffons in South Africa, Jaco has made many friends over the years and will be deeply missed. Off the pitch he exuded happiness and a clear love of life and living in the moment. Jaco was also a husband to Hélet and father to Robert who our thoughts and prayers are with at this difficult time.
In June, a group of incredibly inexperienced rugby players from Oundle RFC will be cycling from Occupation Road to Amsterdam. We have chosen Amsterdam as the destination, as last year a few weeks before Jaco's passing, a large group of Oundle RFC players enjoyed a trip there on a stag do. Jaco was the life and soul of the party over the course of the weekend, so we're incredibly keen to follow in his footsteps!
This is a difficult task to undertake for a lot of the players who have chosen to cycle, who until recently needed stabilisers. The trip will consist of 150 greulling miles, and will be sure to test us all.
We would like to raise money to help his wife Helet, continue his dreams. These include providing rugby coaching for his son Robert, who aged one can already tackle better than Jaco! Jaco’s goal was to train Robert so that he would one day play for his beloved Springboks. We would also like to help Helet facilitate his wish of having his ashes spread in the beautiful Kruger National Park. Any donations will go into a trust for Helet to use for Robert's future.
