Old Park is an all age special school for up to 136 pupils aged 4-19. They provide an amazing education experience for pupils who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties including autism. These include pupils with complex medical conditions, physical and mobility difficulties and autism.

I have worked as a music teacher at Old Park for 8 years. In January, I had an idea to create a school album. A long process that started with me brainstorming with the teachers and pupils and finding out what school meant to them. I then wrote 4 songs based on the popular themes of each phase within the school and worked towards a specific style of song selected by each phase. I then recorded every child within the school playing a variety of instruments ranging from percussion to strings to orchestral...basically anything they wanted to hit, scrape or throw. I have included every single sound in the creation of this album.

Next I had to record some singing so to achieve the effect I needed, I involved my mainstream schools. I taught 4 different classes from St Joseph's Dudley and Dudley Wood primary and recorded them. I was now ready to take everything into the studio and begin piecing it all together. It took around 6 months from start to finish but I am very pleased with how it has turned out and I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to help raise some money for the school.
