Story

The Jack Snipe (Lymnocryptes minimus) is a fascinating yet poorly studied bird species, with an estimated wintering population of 110,000 in the UK. Despite their significant numbers, very little is known about their migration strategies or preferred feeding sites during the winter months. This lack of knowledge poses a challenge for conservation efforts aimed at protecting these elusive birds.

To address this gap in understanding, we aim to utilize radiotags that will allow us to track the movements and behaviors of Jack Snipes in their wintering grounds and migration back to breeding sites. By gaining insights into their migration patterns and habitat preferences, we can advocate more effectively for their conservation. However, to make this project a reality, we need your support.

We are seeking to raise £1,500 to cover the costs of tiny radio tags and receiver units necessary for our fieldwork. Your contribution will play a crucial role in advancing our knowledge of this remarkable species and ensuring its protection for future generations. Any funds above the required amount will be used to purchase additional tags, and to expand our MOTUS tagging projects to other species that we also want to know much more about! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these birds and contribute to biodiversity conservation.
