Story

Hello, my name is Olivia and in October 2018 I will be travelling to Uganda to volunteer for 3 weeks at St Noa’s Primary School,, Nansana, Uganda with VMM (Volunteer Mission Movement). During my time in Uganda I will be volunteering as a teaching assistant supporting children with English, Maths and Sports.

St. Noa’s Primary School is one of the poorest schools in the Nansana District, just outside of Kampala. St Noa’s face an extreme lack of funding, electricity, resources and a lack of suitable facilities for the children to learn in, despite their conditions the staff and children work their hardest to build a better future for themselves. The children love to attend after school sports club which includes playing netball and football. They are led by inspirational teachers, and with our support as volunteers we can help continue to see these young children thrive.

I am aiming to fund-raise £2,000 which covers the costs of the volunteer placement, flights, accommodation, meals and a donation to this amazing school to help contribute to a better future for them. Previous volunteers fundraising donations were used to build classrooms for the children to work in and install windows and doors to the school.

The value of the volunteer support that adds to this school is extraordinary and all donations allow this to continue and most importantly improve the quality of life for these amazing children.

VMM International is a charity development organisation which was established in 1969, who works with communities across Africa in the areas of education, healthcare and community development. You can read more about VMM on www.vmminternational.org.
