Story

Olivia is a very special and brave little girl who will be 2 years old in November. Within the last few months, Olivia and her parents, Sue and Pierre-Adrien’s lives have changed forever.

Olivia has had repeated ear problems for a while, two operations and numerous tests. She was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour called Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Olivia is responding well to the chemotherapy she is currently having at the Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital. Sadly, the tumour is inoperable due to its location near her brain. Specialists have advised that proton therapy is an effective way to deliver radiation for the treatment of the tumour, instead of conventional radiotherapy.

At present, this treatment is not available in the UK, only in the United States. Olivia, Sue and Pierre-Adrien are due to go to Florida round December for the proton therapy. They are expected to be there for 6 to 9 weeks, over the Christmas period. Olivia will continue to have her chemotherapy alongside proton therapy. Amazingly the treatment, travel and accommodation will be funded by the NHS.

Nobody can imagine what they must be going through. As a parent, you worry about your children everyday, but hearing this diagnosis is devastating and life changing for the whole family. Any money we can raise will help Sue and Pierre-Adrien whilst they are in Florida. The money will give them the opportunity to make some precious memories with Olivia and join other families who are going through similar experiences, as well as provide some much needed emotional support whilst they are so far away from their families and friends.

Thank you for reading Olivia’s story. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated and help to make an incredible difference.
