Cycling 50km on the Downs Link
The Downs Link is an off-road track that links the North Downs and the South Downs. It starts near Guildford, finishing at the coast in Shoreham, and is about 60km long.
My goal is to cycle 50km of the Downs Link with my Dad on Sunday 17th July.
Why am I doing this?
In August 2023 I will be travelling with a group of Scouts and Explorers from South West London to join over 40,000 Scouts from all around the world at the 2023 World Scout Jamboree in South Korea. This is a huge 2 week festival with lots of interesting things going on, and has a theme of sustainability. Among other things, it is a unique opportunity for young people from across the world to come together to share campaign ideas, learn new skills and promote the work Scouts are doing to address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal on Climate Action.
In order to get to South Korea I have to raise over £2,000. I have already been fundraising in a variety of ways (see the updates at the bottom of the page):
We are planning other group fundraising efforts with my fellow scouts. However, I also need to raise some money on my own, so I plan to do a sponsored cycle.
I recently completed a 22km and a 20km cycle in the New Forest, on and off road. These were the longest cycles I have done. I hope to more than double this distance and complete a 50km off road trip with my Dad, with a few hills thrown in for good measure.
I'd be really grateful for all your support.
Many thanks
OIlie
Other fundraising so far...
I'm doing a variety of things to raise money. Some things I'm doing on my own to raise money towards my own personal total, like washing cars and babysitting. Other activities have involved a big group of scouts, where the proceeds will help all the scouts going to the jamboree from Richmond District, such as helping at the NPL Water Rocket Challenge or running a fairground stall. See the posts at the bottom of the page for updates on my fundraising.
