Story

Merry-Gold Water Charity is a non-profit charity, registered in Nigeria with the CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission), and with the United Kingdom’s Charity Commission (UK. Registered Charity Number: 1203569). The idea of our charity is to address the perennial water inequity in Nigeria, which was inspired by several visits to Lagos by our founder and principal trustee – Prince Akeem Adenuga who observed firsthand, the dire and untold difficulties being experienced daily by locals in their desperate search for water. This sad state of affairs which is a direct consequence of inadequate, inefficient, and unsanitary public water supply is what we are intent on bridging via the provision of safe water to households in some of the most affected communities in Lagos and, eventually, beyond Lagos State. Our primary mission is to alleviate the water needs in the rural and vulnerable communities in Lagos State, particularly in Odo-Ayandelu/Agbowa-Ikosi/Epe/Ikorodu Local Government Areas, among others. We intend to achieve this by providing modern water borehole systems with adequate reservoirs for them.

To achieve our purpose, we work with integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will focus our efforts on those communities without access to clean water, and work with carefully selected local partners and individuals to provide clean water through low-cost boreholes that we will construct. For our projects, we rely on the goodwill of individual donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and in-kind donations. We monitor, maintain, and evaluate our project facilities to ensure sustainability of the projects. We will empower local leaders, deploy strong operations and maintenance units that will gather data on specific measurable indicators. Merry-Gold Water Charity is dedicated to empowering communities. We are always striving to make a difference and invite you to learn more about us and lend your support.

We were able to achieve our 2023 objective when we built our first water project in July 2023 and was commissioned for public use in August 2023 at Odo-Ayandelu in Lagos State. This is a modern borehole water project with two big tanks that supply circa 4,000 individuals on a daily basis with clean drinking water. Suffice to mention here that our second project is coming up in July 2024 at Owu-Ikosi (Lagos State) where we have already erected the Merry-gold Water Charity sign on the proposed land allocated to us by Oba Nelson Ogunlari (The Olowu of Owu-Agbowa Ikosi).
