Story

Some of you may remember, we were raising money for my friend, Eliyahu, who got himself into a deep pit of heavy debts because of his open heart to help another fellow Jew who ran away leaving him and his family to suffer the consequences against ruthless loan sharks.

Hashem sent us much heavenly aid and we all took part in paying back the big loan (which wasn't even his!) that was not allowing them to breathe. This overwhelming pressure was removed. Words cannot describe how grateful they are.

I would like to share with you a letter I received from him:

Adam,

There are no words to describe how you - and everyone involved - are precious to me. No words to express how much me, my wife and the kids, are grateful to you all. We are praying for each and every person who helped us. Thank you so much. Thank you all.

Since I paid those bad guys, my life took a turn for the better, but I’m still struggling and under a lot of pressure due to the fact that I wasn’t able to pay the bills for years. For years those people left me with nothing and now all those bills that I was unable to pay have accumulated and are 'knocking on my door'. I already had my electricity cut off a few times, my phone and gas …and what not. My heart breaks every time my kids ask for simple things ... and I can’t help them. They are good kids with good grades and I don’t want my house to fall apart. I’m begging for this one push to get me on my feet. Stand by me and G-d will do the same for you all. I don’t have much, but I can pray and bless you all.

Thank you. Eliyahu R.

During those 4-5 years that he was paying an astronomical amount to the loan sharks, debts from different places accumulated: schools, electricity, gas, water bills, as well as private loans he was forced to take to provide the basic necessities for his family.

In short, after sitting with him and going through exact details of how much he needs to completely get out of this nightmare, we worked out that the minimum he needs is £2000, but to completely take care of everything he would need £5500. This is our goal!

Eliyahu is not a taker by nature and it is very hard for him to approach others for help but under the circumstances he has no choice but to reach out and give this one last try for the sake of his family.

Many of you opened your hearts and participated last time; may Hashem help us join forces to help them once again.

May we always be on the giving side!
