On the 9th of February 2022, Ayrshire football rivals, Kilmarnock and Ayr United played in the Scottish Championship at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock.

Ayr United triumphed on the night 2-1. Sadly after the match long time Kilmarnock fan Colin McCue suffered a cardiac arrest and later passed away in hospital.

I write this piece as an Ayr United supporter but also as a football fan first and foremost, one who attended the game with my 3 sons, the same game that Colin did. From the high of experiencing the performance and result of my team on the night to discovering that a fellow father did not make it home from the game was extremely shocking to read about.

With the permission of Colin's family, I have set this page up for the Ayr United football family and indeed football fans regardless of who they support to contribute in memory of Colin, with all funds raised being donated to a charity or community project of the choosing of the McCue family.

Football is a sport that brings fierce local rivalries but it should also be known as a sport that can unite to mark the passing of a fellow human being regardless of the team which they support.
