Story

The Open Door Centre exists to make a positive difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities, enabling our members to achieve their highest potential. All members are respected as adults and are given every opportunity to exercise their right to be heard. Open Door recognises that people with learning disabilities have the same needs as the rest of society – to learn, to undertake meaningful and fulfilling work and to socialise with a wide range of other people, but ultimately to exercise some control over their own lives.

An exciting opportunity!

We have been offered the chance to run a café within Liden Library, which we will set up with the support of Swindon Community Libraries Trust. We just need to raise enough money to buy some essential equipment and recruit a cook!

Employment skills

The project will provide great opportunities for our Members (and anyone else with a disability who would like to get involved). Volunteering in the café and library will develop skills and confidence that can lead to paid work.

Community space

The café will also provide a social space for the Liden Community.

Every penny counts!

We hope to raise £10,000 by 1st September so that we know we will be ready to go by the planned opening date at the start of October. Help us realise our dream to become a self sufficient charity for the benefit of learning disabled adults in Swindon.
