Story
As many will know Terry Derbyshire launched Operation Blood Bike in 2018 with a goal to buy the North West Blood Bikes, Terry did this in his role as Charity Steward of Carnarvon Lodge. No 2376 which at the time was part of the Leyland group of Freemasons Lodges and now part of the Chorley and Leyland Group. Terry did this as an avid motorcyclist who clocks up a high annual mileage involving days out and European tours, he had a strong belief that safety in riding is paramount and decided to train with SLAM (South Lancs. Advanced Motorists) to become and advanced motorcyclist. Through this he became aware of the Blood Bikes with many of SLAMs Members being Blood Bikers and being aware of their work and his passion to help others it was just 18 months later Terry delivered on that goal with the help of so many across the freemasonry community.
Tragically on the 14th August 2021, Terry Derbyshire was involved in a fatal RTC doing what he loved best out on his motorbike. He was a beloved Dad, Step Dad, Grandad, Husband, Brother, Son in law, Brother in law, uncle, cousin, Nephew and good friend to so many. Terry was relentless in his pursuit of helping others and I am honoured to have been able to call Terry my friend. https://www.lep.co.uk/news/transport/family-pay-tribute-to-popular-preston-biker-killed-in-cumbria-crash-3350273
He acted as a father to me, bringing me into the biking community and supporting me throughout my freemasonry passion and life in general. The world lost one of life’s true gentlemen’s on this day.
This is now our time to do what Terry would have continued to do and that is to support others but more importantly those organisations that have such a positive impact on our communities.
It is therefore now our mission to raise £20,000 with a goal to purchase another North West Blood Bike to be named in his honour, Terry, alongside the crest of the lodge he was Worshipful Master of. Any excess funds will be donated to The Great North Air Ambulance who alongside the Blood Bikes provided support to Terry on the day he passed and South Lancs. Advanced Motorists to fund some motorbike safety courses.
To help raise funds in 2019 alongside Carl Daggers I ran The Great Run Manchester 10k and with The Great Run taking place in just 6 weeks (26th September 2021) it feels right for this to be our first fundraising event of many to take part in but this time for the Half Marathon to raise funds for this fantastic cause so please donate and sponsor generously!
