Story

Hey guys. I will be doing the dreaded Dry January while running 5km per day every day during the course of the month to hopefully raise a small bit and raise awareness for Mental Health especially during the current dark times we find ourselves in. If you could spare a wee second to read why im doing this and the charity i will be doing this for that would be class.

The charity i have chosen is Aware NI. AWARE is the depression charity for Northern Ireland - and the only charity working exclusively for people with depression and bipolar disorder.

AWARE delivers mental health and well-being programmes into communities, schools, colleges, universities and workplaces. These programmes include our suite of Mood Matters programmes, Living Life to the Full, Mental Health First Aid and Mindfulness. Our programmes take a preventative approach to mental ill-health and teach attendees techniques to look after their own mental health and well-being.

Why i have decided to do this is to raise awareness, as i mentioned above, for mental health especially during Covid 19. Covid 19 has devastated every aspect of life. What is has also done is take away a lot of normality from our day to day lives. Most of our daily social interaction have gave way to social distancing. We have seen sports stop, gyms close and pretty much all of society close up in one way or another. This in turn has heightened mental health problems throughout the country. I want to challenge myself to run 5km every day (155km in total = 96 miles) to raise awareness for depression & anxiety and hopefully inspire someone/ anyone who is possibly struggling to realise, that despite the grim uncertain times we find ourselves in things will get better and that there is help out there.

You are not alone.
